3 things you didn’t know about “Office Politics”:

  1. They are passing situations

  2. They are our childhood family drama being played over and over again at the workplace

  3. Everyone contributes to office politics, as everyone has been through childhood

Office politics is linked to every company’s own emotional culture. Does the Organisation encourage compassion and gratitude? does the CEO greet the team good morning in the elevator? is it ok to speak about “negative” emotions at the office? when a “negative” emotion arises is it labelled and judged? and how? and so on.

Companies that have a positive, well-balanced emotional culture tend to have lower turnover rates and suffer from less “office politics”.

One tip is - When in a “political” situation at work, imagine the participants as children.

This is a great tool to evoke compassion, get closer to co-workers that trigger you and start mending work relationships.
